Chamba: A Himalayan Town Where History Still Shapes the Streets

5. Chamunda Devi Temple

6. Khajjiar

7. Chamera Lake

Chamera Lake is formed by the backwaters of the Chamera Dam on the Ravi and lies on the route between Chamba and Dalhousie.

8. Bharmaur and Chaurasi Temple Complex

About 65 km from Chamba, Bharmaur offers a much deeper connection to the region's older religious and cultural landscape.

The Chaurasi complex contains 84 temples and shrines and dates back to the early medieval period. It is also closely associated with the Manimahesh pilgrimage tradition.

Don't treat Bharmaur as a quick photo stop. If you want to understand the religious geography of the Chamba region, give it time.

9. Saho

Saho is around 18 km from Chamba and lies along the Sal River.

Its Chandrashekhar Temple is associated with a long local religious tradition and contains a naturally formed Shiva lingam. An annual fair is held here in September.
